Your Why and Your Dreams

Girl DreamingBesides discovering your why (or your purpose in life), you will probably find you have many dreams you would like to pursue.

These will be things you want to experience, to do, to be or to have.

For example:

** You may dream of taking a camping trip in Europe
** You might dream of going skiing in the Swiss Alps.
** Your dream might be to become a teacher or a public speaker
** You may want to havine a house overlooking a lake or the sea

Many of your dreams will give more power to your why.
You may have discovered that your purpose in life is to give children with learning challenges some extra opportunities to discover their strengths. You also dream of owning a large ranch somewhere in Texas.

Is there a conflict between your why and your dream? Of course not. A ranch in Texas would be a great place to invite a group of children with learning challenges to spend a week of their summer. There would be a host of possibilities of being able to provide extra support for children if you owned a large property.

Your why gives you a powerful reason to pursue your dream.

Another example might be:
You know your why is to provide support for families that are care givers to an older generation.

You may also have a dream of building a million dollar business. Your why would certainly give power to this dream. There are so many things you could do to support families if you had the funding of a million dollar business.

Your dream to build a million dollar business is much more likely to succeed when your focus is not on earning money, but on why you need money. (In this case your focus would be on providing support for the families of care givers). You could provide them with extra help, retreats and many other practical things that would certainly help make their lives so much easier.

Can you see how powerful your dream can be when it is driven by your purpose in life (or your why)?

Now its time for YOU to consider your dreams:

  • Take out a sheet of clean paper, or open a clean page in your journal. Yes NOW is the time to get started with making a difference in your life!
  • Write down your why at the top of the page. (If you have not yet discovered your purpose in life, take a look here to find out how to find your why).
  • Next write down your dreams, leaving 3 or 5 lines empty between each dream.
  • Now go back and look at each dream in the light of your why. Note how each dream could support your why.

But what if your dreams seem to conflict with your why?

I have a fascinating true story to share with you about this in the next post
