Life is full of risks. Sometimes we take risks without realizing it, while other times we may be all too conscious of what we are about to do. Consequently we may even feel a little apprehensive.
Interestingly enough, you can only take risks when you apply faith. It takes faith to do many things in this life. After all the future has not yet arrived, so it is full of the unknown. We are never really 100% certain of anything that is in the future, whether it is one year from now or one second from now.
So whether you realize it or not, you are actually walking through this life by faith. To take risks you need faith.
Comfortable Risks
There are many things you do every day that involve risk. However because they are habitual activities, you simply apply faith without even thinking about it and just do these things.
For example:
What guarantee do you have that the chair you are about to sit on was not weakened by something while you were away and it is no longer able to support your weight as you sit down?
Do you think about that as you pull out a chair and sit down to chat with your friends? Of course you don’t.
You take an unconscious risk that it would support your weight every time you sit down. You believe it will still support you as it did the last time you sat down.
Because these risks are so much a part of your day, they do not seem like risks at all. This makes them very comfortable risks.
How many other things do you and I do every day so habitually we don’t think about any possible risk being involved? I am sure you can think of many.
Calculated and Deliberate Risks
The growing experience in life is full of calculated and deliberated risks. The more risks we take, the more we grow and achieve.
Every learning experience takes an investment of time and often an investment of money. How do you know that the investment will be a good one? Here is a simple planning strategy, and yes a calculated risk is needed.
- Make some calculations based on all the information you can find.
- Construct a plan and strategy
- Step out to follow your plan.
Every time you step out to follow a new plan it will mean you will be stepping out of your comfort zone at least to some degree. The greater the plan, the greater the risk and the more you will be stepping outside your comfort zone.
Anyone who has succeeded in life in their chosen field of expertise has stepped outside of their comfort zone more than once. Without risk there is no success.
It is only when you step out your area of comfort that you will discover you are capable of doing much more than you think you can do. Sure, not everything will work as planned. But you will grow and as you keep trying you WILL succeed.
Unnecessary Risks
There are necessary risks (which would be those calculated and deliberate risks) and then there are unnecessary risks.
Unnecessary risks could really be described as gambles. When you gamble on something happening, you are usually acting on the hope that you will achieve the expected result. There is usually little or no calculation in any decision inspired by a gamble.
Anyone who is prone to making decisions based on a gambling approach is living their based on the kind of hopes that are akin to dreaming.
A true champion who is focused on pursuing success in life takes calculated risks based on faith. He does not just hope he will win, he believes he will reach his goal. This is because a champion may take many calculated in order to succeed. However he will not take risks that he has not taken time to plan and calculate.
Dare to step out of your comfort zone, follow your plan with faith and you will reach your goals.

[...] Now I am not saying that to succeed you have to be rash and reckless. Absolutely not. But you DO have to take some risks. [...]
