Another Subtle Disguise Of Fear

Looking left outHave you noticed that there is an enemy in this world who is out to make life difficult for you?

The biggest weapon that he uses against you, your goals, your dreams and your life is fear.

This MAY come as a surprise to you but perhaps it is because it is not always obvious that the real root of the battle is fear. Fear presents itself in our lives under several different disguises.

Two articles ago we considered the possibility that inadequacy is actually one of these disguises.

Here is another disguise that may also come as a surprise to you, but I am sure that once we look into it, this will set you thinking.

Selfishness – Fear In Disguise.
Now I do not think that all selfishness is simply cloaking fear. Selfishness is certainly a root in itself and has many very destructive offshoots.

But for today, we are going to consider some of the times when this apparent egocentric or self-centered attitude may actually be a cover for a deep heart problem of fear.

Consider this:
I am sure you have met (or perhaps even personally know) people who are very withdrawn.

  • They prefer to be alone and certainly don’t like to be the center of attention if they do find themselves with a group.
  • They do not like social gatherings, but would rather be at home hiding behind a computer or watching TV.
  • They usually have little to say when there are more than two people in their presence, and they rarely if ever contribute in a group discussion (that is if they are even there in the first place).
  • They are always putting themselves down – speaking negative words especially about themselves.

Hidden under all of this apparent selfishness (reluctance to share themselves with others) – the timidity and the FEAR is a very smart and intelligent person. But their live is paralyzed because of fear.

Some of the fears that paralyze social development:

  • Fear of rejection (you don’t feel that have ANYTHING worthy of sharing).
  • Fear of being ridiculed (because you feel your contribution to the group may not be acceptable). This of course is also related to feelings of inadequacy.
  • Fear of not being able to compete with your peers – you feel that your peers are always better than you (even though this may be far from the truth).
  • Fear of people in general – some folk cannot even walk into a room where there is a group of people.

You get the picture right?

So what can you do about this fear?

First: The very first thing to do about ANY negative trait, attitude or emotion is to recognize it.

All negative operates in the dark. It has more power when it is left unnoticed.

Once you recognize it’s existence in your life, it has already lost some power.

Second: Decide you WANT to get rid of ALL fear from your life. Everything that is in yours and my life is there because of your permission (and my permission). You may have given your concession consciously or unconsciously, but you gave it. How? By your words and your thoughts.

Now you are going to demand that it leaves your life.

Third: Start allowing yourself to dream and dream big.

You should think so big that it actually scares you into success and out of fear land.

Fourth – Decide that you are going to start believing in yourself. (You are worth it – you are a champion!).

When you want to punch out fear, punch out low self-belief, and punch out indecision out of your life, you have to knock them out with the Champion Power Twins – Faith and patience

Most people are not going to see you as any better than you see yourself (unless they are your close friends). People in general will treat you at the level that you see yourself to be on.

Fifth – Start to consciously speak positive words about yourself and about those around you.

Declare this:

I am taking the enemy of fear captive now by my outward spoken faith-filled champion words

You were born a champion
